Stud Book Registrations

Foal Registrations

To be eligible for pure-bred registration in the stud book, foals must be by a Licensed Stallion and out of a pure-bred registered mare. Foal registrations must by accompanied by a DNA hair sample taken by your Veterinary Surgeon. To register a foal, you must obtain an application form, DNA kit and ID diagrams (silhouette card) from the secretary. ID diagrams must be completed and signed by a Veterinary Surgeon.

Stud Prefix Register

Anyone wishing to register a foal must first adopt a prefix. Prefixes are registered with the Central Prefix Register. To adopt a prefix, you should contact passports@percheron.org.uk who will explain the procedure.

Transfer of Ownership

If you have purchased a registered pure or part-bred Percheron, you are advised to contact passports@percheron.org.uk for the necessary transfer of ownership form.

Change of ownership forms can also be downloaded and should be completed when purchasing or transfering ownship of a horse with a passport issued by the British Percheron Horse Society.

Stallion Licences

Colts are eligible for license at the age of two. Stallions must undergo and pass a Veterinary Inspection followed by a further inspection by two representatives of the Society. contact passports@percheron.org.uk for more details.

Non-Breeding Register (Part-bred)

To be eligible for part-bred registration, the horse has to be 50% Percheron and must be a first cross, i.e. by a Registered Stallion or out of a pure-bred registered mare.

Registration of Imported Horses (Overseas Registrations)

Percherons are eligible for registration in the British Percheron Stud Book, in the case of imports from France, USA, and Canada. The horse must first be registered in the stud book of the Societe Hippique Percheronne de France, or the Percheron Horse Association of America, or the Canadian Percheron Horse Breeders' Association.
